It is designed to work exactly like a floppy disk, allowing users to copy and delete files from it, and use it to run programs. Single-sided 4.7GB DVD-RAM disks achieve their high storage capacity from a decrease in track pitch and pit lengths, allowing for a higher density media. DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM are supported by Panasonic, Toshiba, Apple Computer, Hitachi, NEC, Pioneer, Samsung and Sharp. Recordable DVD discs that are formatted for DVD Video Recorders can also be used in compatible DVD drives for computers with one extra step to format the disc.
